Male Gadwall, Felbrigg Lake 1st. February

Managed to get out this afternoon, between the wintery downpours, to checkout the ducks on Felbrigg Lake. The good news is that the two Goldeneye (fem & imm. male) have returned, after flying off together yesterday morning. The bad news is that they didn’t bring the female Smew back with them! Still plenty of Gadwall and Tufted Duck – one female showing white under-tail coverts as they sometimes do, on the lake and the number of Mute Swan has increased to twelve again. Other birds of interest included a Little Egret feeding along Scarrow Beck, below the dam, with a Snipe nearby and a dark looking Buzzard by the Weaver’s Way.
