Our two ‘celebrity’ ducks – male Shoveler & young Goldeneye

Nothing new this morning but still plenty to look at on my morning walk. The Bullfinch were again down the lane and a Mistle Thrush was on the ploughed field. Several singing Chiffchaff – up to five different birds around the lake. Most of the duck were flushed off the water meadow on to the lake by NT workers doing something with the sluice. The young male Goldeneye and Shoveler were both on the lake and the pair of Oystercatcher were on the dam. On the path to the screen Marsh Tit, Siskin, Treecreeper, Nuthatch and a pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker cavorting in the canopy. No sign of the Mandarin, but the male Black Redstart remains at the Hall where, on Saturday, it was joined by a female! It’s just possible they could stay around to breed – which would be very exciting.
