Aylmerton Nature Diary

Friday 11th March

Up early in preparation for this mornings Aylmerton Pond Project working party. As I reached the allotments a Barn Owl flew from the direction of The Street and landed in the oak above Lee’s plot. A couple of Siskin were buzzing over the house on my return.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in Felbrigg, getting ready for our Breeding Bird Survey planning meeting on Sunday, and enjoying a good walk round. Nothing new on the lake, the male Pochard was with the twenty or so Tufted Duck, but still no sign of the family of Mute Swan. The most interesting birds were on The Heath, where a male Tawny Owl was calling and there were several Siskin feeding in the nearby birch trees. No sign or sound of Firecrest on my way back home.
