Aylmerton Nature Diary

Yesterday was my annual Norfolk cycle ride with a group of friends. We cycled to Natural Surroundings for lunch, returning via the back lanes around Hunworth, Edgefield and Baconsthorpe. I noticed, as we were riding along, a considerable number of dead toads on the road – but also, tragically, two Slow-worms.

Slow-worms are of course not a worm – but nor are they a snake! They are, in fact, a lizard – with the ability to blink their eyes and shed their tails. I’d love to find one locally.
