Handsome male, one of five Wheatear present on the rough grazing meadow, Felbrigg

By yesterday late afternoon all the weekend Wheatears, two males and three females, were back together on the rough grazing meadow below the dam. This is the most Wheatear I’ve seen together at Felbrigg. The female/young male Ring Ouzel was also still present. Apparently, I missed a Lesser Whitethroat in the adjoining hedge, which is a shame. Hopefully they’ll stay to breed, as they did last year. Closer to home, a report of a brood of Mallard on the village pond is a welcome indication that our recent habitat management work is beginning to pay off.
