Aylmerton Nature Diary

About me

DSC_0017I’m Trevor, married to Jane, and happily retired. We’ve had our place in Aylmerton since 2000 but it’s only in the last few of years that we’ve been able to spend the majority of our time here. But with family living abroad – Australia and Chile, coupled with our love of birds, it still means we spend a fair amount of our time travelling. If you’re interested in our more adventurous travel tales, visit my other blog Trevor On Tour

From Egypt to Ecuador, the Falklands to Florida, Thailand to Tunisia, I’ve been lucky enough to look for birds in their many varied forms and locations… so why Aylmerton?? Well as anyone interested in birds will know, Norfolk is the top county in Britain, with it’s close proximity to northern Europe and it’s rich & varied habitats – from Broads to Brecks, this is the place to live. As well as being within easy reach of most of the top locations, including Cley NWT – Britain’s oldest and arguably best loved bird reserve (where I’m a volunteer guide), Aylmerton has plenty of great birding habitat of it’s own. Most of the Felbrigg estate is within the parish, as are the ancient woodlands of the Cromer Ridge and we’ve plenty of other bird-rich habitats besides.

So with all this nature on our doorstep I thought it would be a good idea to capture and share some of it through a regular diary – and so AND, the Aylmerton Nature Diary is born!

The photographs used are my own, unless otherwise credited, and may not be reproduced without prior permission.  Homepage images are courtesy of my brother – visit his website for more fantastic photographs or John Hurst, local artist – see his website  for superb water-colour landscapes and more.

  1. It was nice to meet you this morning. There is a photo of a Roe Deer on my Twitter feed that I took not long after seeing you. Please feel free to use it if you wish.

  3. Just realised it was you I talked to in Sustead today. I’ve been following your blog for ages. Drop in to see us at Field cottage to discuss that piece of common land.

  5. Hi Trevor – just wanted to say I love following your blog. I usually visit Felbrigg a few times a year – I think we met last year (young guy with 500mm lens staying at Sexton’s Lodge). Hope to get back down there soon!
